Geauga County is a county located in the state of Ohio, United States. As of 2000, the population was 90,895. It is named for a Native American word meaning "raccoon". The county seat is Chardon. In 2008, Forbes Magazine ranked Geauga County as the fourth best place in America to raise a family. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 408 square miles (1,057 km²).404 square miles (1,045 km²) of it is land and 5 square miles (12 km²) of it (1.13%) is water. Geauga County receives the most precipitation of any county in northern Ohio, with most of the county receiving over 42 inches annually in an average year, and some parts exceeding 44 inches.
